Walt Disney - A very short biography

  • Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 5, 1901.
  • He was one of five children (four boys and a girl)
  • Walt was interested in drawing at an early age and sold his first sketches to neighbors when he was seven years old.
  • He went to McKinley High School in Chicago and spend his time between drawing and photography.
  • Walt attempted to enlist for military service in 1918 but he was rejected because he was only 16 years of age and.
  • He joined the Red Cross and was sent overseas.
  • After the war, Walt returned home, where he started his career as an advertising cartoonist.
  • In 1920, he created his first original animated cartoons.
  • In August 1923, Walt Disney left for Hollywood to his brother and they started working together.
  • Walt married one of his employees, Lillian Bounds in 1925 and they had two daughters.
  • Mickey Mouse was created in 1928.
  • Construction of Disney's Burbank studio was completed in 1940, and the staff increased to more than 1,000 artists, animators, story men, and technicians.
  • Disney began television production in 1954 and was among the first to present full-color programming in 1961.
  • Disneyland launched in 1955.
  • Walt Disney World opened to the public on October 1, 1971.
  • Walt Disney dies on December 15, 1966.
